GRANDPARENTS RIGHTS ARE DIFFERENT EVEN IN THE SAME FAMILY

If you have more than one child with children of there own you are probably struck by how different the Grandparenting experience is from one extended family to the others. No matter what your relationship is with your own children you have now added a spouse to each of your own kids. That spouse brings a totally different set of life and familial experiences to your family. When Grandkids are added to the mix ……….You can see where this gets […]

GRANDPARENTS AS PARENTS NEED TO KNOW THEIR GRANDPARENTS RIGHTS

You may be surprised to know that over 6 million households (Headed by Heroic Grandparents) in America today are involved in rescuing grandchildren from non-functioning family units. Many of these arrangements are informal in nature. This causes all kinds of problems for Grandparents Rights in every case as well as added instability for the grandchildren. Here is how it works in many cases. The increasing number of single Moms as well as, to a lesser extent single Dads,  move back […]

Grandparents raising grandchildren rally in Washington, DC

Across the country hundreds of thousands of grandparents raising grandchildren do not get sufficient rights or help. They gladly take on the role as the primary caregiver, but they hope to gain some of the same support afforded to foster parents. Grandparents from across the state and country are rallying to raise awareness about the lack of support they receive, in contrast to the foster care system, when raising grandchildren. What is Elder Law?

More and more these days, people are asking me about Elder Law. As the nation ages, it has become an important part of our legal system. Grandparent rights are part of Elder Law, but they are not the only part. If you don’t know what Elder Law is, you should learn. According to the Pew study, almost two-thirds of the grandparents who are primarily responsible […]

Grandparents rights in Wisconsin: a victory in court

Grandparents rights in Wisconsin have been upheld due to a recent court case. The Wisconsin Court of Appeals has clarified that when Wisconsin’s “special grandparent visitation provision” applies, petitioning grandparents need not show a “significant triggering event” occurred in order to seek visitation rights of a nonmarital grandchild. You can see the details of the case here. The case is one of many across the country where grandparents rights are winning small victories or losing small defeats due to the […]

Are we losing our grandparents rights?

Are grandparents rights slipping away from us? Are we losing them? This question comes at me more and more ever since the terrible Supreme Court decision of Troxell over a decade ago, and every time a battle for grandparents rights is lost or delayed in the courts or legislatures around the country. Grandparents rights are not something that are given to us. It is incumbent upon us to be proactive. I don’t mean that we take something from someone as much as […]

Grandparents rights in Tennessee could be approved

Tennessee judges may soon have legal authority to grant visitation rights to grandparents fighting to see their grandchildren and that’s a first for the state. Both the House and the Senate passed the grandparents rights bill. It now sits on Governor Haslam’s desk. It’s sponsored by Johnson City Republican Senator Rusty Crowe. Among other things, the measure calls for the court to consider whether parents are depriving a grandparent of the chance to visit a child. Check out this video […]

Grandparents raising grandchildren

Grandparents raising grandchildren has become a very common factor and it seems that there are many more grandparents taking on the role of parent to their grandchildren and this puts many grandparents in a funny situation. It may be complicated to determine what your grandparents rights, but you need to find out what you can do as a grandparent and there may be some specific situations where you will be in some trouble if you do not have specific rights […]
