BEYOND GRANDPARENTS RIGHTS

Most of the 300 articles I have written here in Caring Grandparents have to do with Grandparents’ Rights. Both of my books are specifically about Grandparents’ Rights and the things we can do if there are family challenges around such things as Visitations and time with our Grands. This is as it should be because the withholding of an opportunity to share our Love, experience, and concern with our Grandkids is a travesty. I realize it doesn’t help those going […]

MAKING A CONNECTION

One of the Nuggets of Wisdom that is irrefutable is that every connection we make with our Grandchildren offers valuable teaching moments. My nickname on my AARP sign-in page is “King of the Upside Down Hug’. As silly as this sounds, my now early 20s grandkids still ask (sarcastically since they are bigger than I am) for their upside-down hug. The magic of this gesture is that when they were small I would hug them upside down and bounce them […]

NEVER TOO EARLY!

This is a truly proud Grandpa teaching his 2 month old Grandson how to catch a fish on the FIRST cast. When my kids were small I used to get a lot of guff from the neighbors for taking their little heads in my hand, locking their leg inside my arm and carrying them with me when I did my gardening. Note; this was before those snuggly front pouches. My kids were safe and sound, they loved the movement and […]

DOG ADOPTS FAMILY- FAMILY ADOPTS DOG

A couple of years ago my Granddaughter’s family moved into their home in Western North Carolina. It is a beautiful 38 acre mountain top home, complete with ½ mile gravel driveway straight up the hill off a curve in the paved road.  This home had been vacated for a couple of years before they moved in. Upon their arrival a bonus appeared in the form of a cute little dog, that they eventually named Lucia. She  greeted them, although skittish […]

LITTLE ONES WATCH WHAT WE DO

It is not news that kids watch what the people who love them do so much more than what we say. I have mentioned the community of Pet Rescue that my UDDER BRUDDER and Sis-in-Law have been doing for years. I just think this cause provides a ton of meaningful teaching moments for our Grandchildren. Pets hold the power to bring like minded people together. When I started this I had no idea what a massive movement for good this […]

PROUD GRANDPA

I have written before about being a “Good seer and good sayer” so here goes. My wonderful 14 year old Granddaughter was volunteering (pre-covid)  with a most fascinating and quite frankly Magic program in Western North Carolina where she lives. The program is called “HEART OF HORSE SENSE’. The Founder and Executive Director is Shannon Knapp.  From their web site;  “Heart of Horse Sense was initially founded to support quality, professional trauma-informed equine therapy services for Veterans, First Responders, At-Risk […]

PET RECYCLING

Many years ago my son and I did online ecommerce in the field of Recycling. It was popular then and according to the life cycle of some of those articles from 10 years ago it is still a good idea. OK I admit it is a stretch to call Rescue animals Pet Recycling. Even though it is a stretch it is still a great idea. My Sister-in-Law and my UDDER BRUDDER have been a Foster Home in Coastal South Carolina […]

CARPE DIEM

Many years ago my bride and I attended a seminar on Self Esteem. It was presented by a real credible teacher, Jack Canfield “CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL” guy. One of the tenants of Self Esteem is to go after and/or ask for what you want. I remember him telling us that most people are not mind readers and they may not know what it is that you want. I would definitely place Grandchildren in that category. Since you are […]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Some of us Senior Grandparents remember that song that in 1965 OTIS REDDING wrote and performed. In 1967 ARETHA FRANKLIN made it very famous. This song still holds sway today. You would be well within your right if you ask “What does this have to do with Caring Grandparents?”. The answer is that I set out to write an article about the #1 Best Practice for Caring Grandparents. There are those who don’t want to hear it but as much […]
