LISTENING IS LOVING

I am always on the lookout for ways to add value to my most precious Grandkids. I write them all a newsletter each Sunday morning and I wanted to share some good stuff that came into my little brain yesterday. Hope you like it.

You may recognize the opening line of one of my favorite poems, Desedarata; “Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, etc.” This is the beginning of the writings of Max Ehrmann, an American writer, poet and Attorney. In the body of his writing of this piece he states “Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. ” (I might add the young as well)Here in lies the magic of being present to another. I think this is our highest and best calling, especially with those we care about.A few weeks ago I shared that I ask my 14 year old granddaughter Lillie and my 11 year old grandson Gabriel what they thought of this whole Covid deal. The conversation went long and got deep. It really doesn’t matter so much the content of the conversation as the PRESENCE and CONNECTION created by the event.It will serve us and our loved ones well for us to ask and then listen rather than assume we know what someone thinks or especially feels. Just sayin!
